The Student Driver Experience
If you're over fifteen , then you most likely know what it's like to drive a vehicle. The rush of the world around you as you zoom on the highways. That sense of freedom to go anywhere that a tank of gas will take you. But, do we ever think back to how it felt when we got behind the wheel for the first time?
I'm assuming that many people who first learn to drive are either A: really excited to get away from the folks. B: apprehensive about what might happen once we leave the driveway. Or, C: scared out of their pants because they've watched wayyyyy too many horror movies where people get killed either in their cars, or as their walking towards them. I was a BC combo. The fact that I almost ran my dad over with his own car while playing in it didn't help my confidence any.
Pretty sure this was what 1/2 of us looked like when we first started
When I first started driving I didn't go above five miles. (And that was in the parking lot next to my house!) Scared me so much! And when I applied the brakes for the first time I almost went through the window; I stepped on them so hard. I'm sure that we all weren't like that. Some of us probably did pretty well our first go 'round. Its been two years since I've started driving; and I've gotten pretty god at it. Too bad I can't say that about the adults around me.
I don't see why adults say that teens are such bad drivers. I mean, that's like the pot calling the kettle black because I've seen bad adult drivers to. The adult drivers make the exact same mistakes that teens do. Not stopping at stop signs, running red lights, not using blinkers and cutting others off. In my opinion, teens are actually better drivers because we just had all the courses and finished with our drivers training. While adults who haven't had reviewing either forget the rules or disregard them.
